Through the use of the New York State Common Core Skills Strand, children in Kindergarten learn about oral and written language, concepts such as letters, sounds, words, and sentences. We also introduce reading strategies.
In January, students start Guided Reading groups and a parent meeting is held to introduce our Reading Program.
Writing
The children are introduced to the writing process through the formation of letters, and an introduction to sentence structure. We encourage writing about their own experiences, as well as response writing to a given topic or picture.
