On March 20, 2009 nine students were inducted into the Spanish National Honor Society. Following the candlelight ceremony, a paella dinner was held for the society members, new inductees and their families. Our guest speaker was Mrs. DeEtte Marshall, a language teacher at Jefferson Community College. Mrs. Marshall spoke of the importance of not only knowing other languages but understanding the culture and customs of other people. Since its inception in 2000, eighty-six students have been inducted into our school’s chapter, Los Académicos en las Orillas del Lago. Only the top students are eligible to become members as they must have a Spanish average of 93 and a cumulative school average of 85 in all other academic classes.
