Welcome to Algebra 1. This is a very exciting year.   Students in this course must successfully pass the Algebra 1 regents exam in June in order to move on to Geometry. This exam is also required by New York State for graduation.

Although it is a challenging course, Algebra 1 is also a high-quality curriculum that will get students college and career ready!

Course Description:

A complete outline of the course, along with the lessons and a video of each lesson can be found at:

Important calculator info

An important part of this course is learning to use a graphing calculator. Students will have access to calculators during class as well as during their Academic Enhancement Periods.  It is not necessary to purchase a graphing calculator for this class. An on-line graphing calculator can be used to assist with homework assignments. Go to www.desmos.com to get started.

Important Grading Information:

Students have a couple ways to make sure they pass the course.  First and foremost, I allow test and quiz corrections for 25% of their points back.  Many students have great test anxiety and really must take advantage of this opportunity.

Secondly are my Problem of the Week grades.  These are questions given out on Monday and due in class Friday.  I will help with these, so students should try them early in the week and get help when needed.  Students should always get 100's on their POTW!

Homework assignments will be on castlelearning. Students without internet at home will need to work on these assignments during their Academic Enhancement periods or after school with me.

Grading Scheme
