About Our School
The quaint and historic Village of Sackets Harbor and the Town of Hounsfield is home to the Sackets Harbor Central School District, Home of the Patriots. Our school has a rich tradition of excellence and continuous community support. We are proud of our historic building that houses our K-12 academic programs. This provides a family atmosphere for our students, faculty, and staff that allows for personal attention and assistance.
Our district provides an array of programs for academic intervention, Response to Intervention (RtI) and Reading Recovery resources and special education services. We provide Advanced Placement courses in English and Social Studies as well as College level English through Jefferson Community College. We also provide Distance Learning courses in our DL lab that allow our students to take higher level courses.
For a small school district of under 500 students, our school boasts a wonderful marching band, The Sentinels. They perform in many local parades and represent our district proudly. This group sponsors the annual renowned "Haunted House" held in the Madison Barracks each year at Halloween. This popular event draws many people to our village each year.
Our students are active in extracurricular events and a broad array of clubs and activities are ongoing throughout the year. Students participate in the WPBS Whiz Quiz tournament, Forensics, Envirothon, Ski Club, SPARK, SPARK JR., National Honor Society, Junior National Honor Society, Yearbook, Model UN, Patriot Compact, Patriot Pals, and Spanish National Honor Society. This provides a broad range of activities to be involved in that meet a multitude of interests.
Our sports teams participate in the Frontier League, Section III Class D of NYSPHSAA. Our school colors of maroon and white can be seen on the soccer fields, basketball court, baseball and softball fields,and golf course. Our fans, coaches, and athletes subscribe to wearing our Patriot mascot proudly and exhibit the highest level of sportsmanship. We pride ourselves in putting forth quality teams who are competitive and scholarly. We emphasize scholastics, health and wellness, and teamwork. All virtues that are taught throughout a students years at S.H.C.S.
Most recently our district completed a capital construction project that upgraded our district technology infrastructure, playground, energy efficient windows and heating system, athletic fields, security system,and many interior upgrades. Our technology upgrades include new wireless computer labs, new computer lab hardware, Promethian Interactive Boards, Smart Carts and much more. Our new playground is constructed out of recycled plastic (56,000 milk jugs) and is erected in a new location near our baseball diamond. We are forever thank ful to the residents for their approval of this project for our school.
The Sackets Harbor Central School District has a collaborative and collegial relationship with the Village, Town, and local business community. Our school has a very supportive PTO membership that work hard to provide many extras to our school and student body. We are pleased to be part of a diverse, forward thinking community with "green initiatives", development, and growth as resonating themes for the future.
Sackets Harbor is an inviting community nestled along the shores of Lake Ontario.
